B1 — Express Yourself More Comfortably

What Will We Learn in This Program?

We help adults who can communicate at a basic level in everyday situations speak more spontaneously about familiar topics and connect their ideas. We work on adding detail to experiences, giving reasons for opinions, and keeping conversations going.

Talking About Experiences and Plans

  • Describe an event in the order it happened.

  • Share feelings and thoughts about experiences.

  • Explain goals, expectations, and future plans, giving reasons.

  • Briefly describe and comment on a book, film, or story.

Everyday Communication

  • Explain problems that may arise while travelling, shopping, or using services.

  • Ask for information, compare options, and discuss a suitable solution.

  • Recognize a misunderstanding and clarify an explanation.

  • Express needs and requests in familiar work and social situations.

Sharing Opinions and Keeping Conversations Going

  • Give an opinion on a familiar topic, supported by brief reasons and examples.

  • Explain the advantages and disadvantages of a suggestion in simple terms.

  • Respond appropriately to a different opinion.

  • Contribute to a conversation with follow-up questions and comments.

  • Try describing an unfamiliar word using other expressions or examples.

Listening, Reading, and Writing

  • Follow the main points of clear speech on familiar topics.

  • Find the main idea and important details in texts about everyday life and interests.

  • Describe an experience, plan, or opinion in a short, connected text.

  • Write short emails requesting information, explaining a problem, or offering a suggestion.

Learning Support

Topic preparation, vocabulary support, and model expressions help participants start speaking. Pair tasks, role-plays, and small-group discussions offer opportunities to communicate with different people. Feedback supports clearer, more connected expression.
